The WALS system monitors in real time a variety of inputs for compliance with process parameters that may occur during the metal 3D printing build process. The system then adjusts a range of controls in fractions of a second to nearly continuously maintain optimal build parameters. This real-time closed-loop control system, developed internally and expressly for the ADDere laser wire additive manufacturing system, provides precise process parameter updates including location, power, temperature, material and speed. This control loop control ensures consistent 3D printed part build quality.
WALS allows the user to predefine values during the initial planning phase, as well as allowing for adjustments during the actual 3D printing build phase. The WALS algorithms adjusts robot speed, laser power, wire feed speed and wire preheating to ensure the correct geometry is being created.
All measured and adjusted values during the build process may be recorded for future evaluation. These values can be used to create data maps of the 3D printed metal part and to compare parts across production runs, as well as for reference when assessing additively manufactured part performance versus projected.
