ADDere Additive Manufacturing
THE FUTURE OF MANUFACTURING

About Us

How Addere came to be

ADDere Additive ManufacturingADDere Additive Manufacturing was founded by Midwest Engineered Systems (MWES) in 2016. MWES developed ADDere as a 3D laser-wire additive manufacturing (LWAM) process where high deposition rates for large parts are essential. With ADDere, complicated forms can be 3D printed in near net shaped that would otherwise be extremely difficult to create in other traditional processes.

Additive manufacturing (commonly referred to as industrial metal 3D printing) is a digital process that uses 3D design data to directly build components in layers by depositing material. Using exotic metals, the material can be deposited to build prototypes or small batches of parts with unmatched precision and speed. ADDere Additive Manufacturing is the future of manufacturing!

Our Mission

ADDere's mission is to provide cutting-edge 3D laser-wire additive solutions for large, high-strength prototypes and short-run production metal manufacturing.

Our Vision

ADDere's vision is to refine our additive manufacturing technology and its capabilities and provide that technology to all manufacturers.

ADDere's Customer Focus

ADDere is focused on three areas of service for our customers:

  1. We are focused on proofing out the build and ensuring repeatability in the 3D laser-wire additive manufacturing 3D printing process
  2. We assist our partners with 3D printing metal parts on-demand as an in-house service that they can depend on
  3. We provide our partners the option to print parts in their facility through the use of either a standard or completely custom-built ADDere system

ADDere's History

Association for Advanced Automation Member BadgeThe early years of ADDere were focused on system and process development. By developing the laser-wire additive manufacturing (LWAM) process, ADDere was born.

In just two years, ADDere developed two LWAM printing systems, each with its own unique features. Our system was evaluated by GKN Aerospace who chose our technology to install in Oak Ridge National Labs (ORNL) in Knoxville, TN. The cell is set up to exclusively print titanium TI-64 components for the aerospace industry.

Today, ADDere offers complete systems, additive engines and 3D metal printing services to customers large and small.

ADDere's Timeline

2015
LASER-WIRE ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPED

Midwest Engineered Systems (MWES) developed in-house the core technology behind laser-wire additive manufacturing and the beginnings of ADDere and its technology.

2016
Q1
The Official Founding of ADDere

ADDere Additive Manufacturing officially becomes a separate division of MWES, focusing on 3D printing for large metal part manufacturers and general printing services.

2016
Q3
ADDere STANDARD SYSTEM RELEASED

ADDere developed the ADDere Standard System. This low cost fully functional system allows part production of up to 400kgs and a working envelope of a 1 meter cube for most materials.

2017
ADDere ADVANCED SYSTEM RELEASED

A larger more advanced system expands the part weight capacity to 2,000 kg. with a 1 x 1 x 2 meter working envelope and a submerged inert environment for those metals that react adversely to oxygen.

2018
Work for the OAK RIDGE NATIONAL LABORATORY

ADDere installed an additive manufacturing system onsite at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), a national R&D facility.

2020
ADVANCES IN LASER SAFE ENVIRONMENTAL ENCLOSURE

This system includes unique active and passive laser safety systems, and enhanced purging capability in a low-loss gas enclosure. Additionally, there is automation and anti-chamber for high production throughput requirements.

2021
H1
TRANSITIONED TO CODESYS BASED CONTROLS PLATFORM

Revamped our software controls platform to a CODESYS-based system, giving real-time and closed-loop controls.

2021
H2
DEVELOPED COAXIAL LASER Directed Energy Deposition (DED) PROCESS

The coaxial DED optic allows for increased flexibility with component geometry, increasing our capability with an additional axis of freedom for out-of-position part forming.

2022
DEVELOPING AI TECHNOLOGY TO CONTROL BUILD

Revamped our controls platform to a PLC-based system, giving ADDere real-time, closed-loop controls for improved performance.
