Turbine blades have to be manufactured to be extremely precise in order to do their job correctly and efficiently. ADDere’s laser-wire additive manufacturing process can produce a stainless steel 1800mm (5ft 11in) tall turbine blade in 30 hours on a single pass, while using only 61kg (135lbs) of stainless steel. The completed turbine blade has a hollow interior and a 5mm wide sidewall, with a height variant of less than 0.5mm from the designed height.
ADDere’s proprietary closed-loop feedback system was instrumental in not only monitoring and maintaining the deposition quality in near real-time but also oversaw the consistent dimensional accuracy during the application of the stainless steel material over the course of the build.
